MAY 13TH, 2024

i've been listening to a lot of drum n bass lately because i found a really good youtube channel that posts the best collection of drum n bass mixes i've heard. my favorite one i've listened to recently is bingo sessions. there's a part 2 i'm listening to right now here. i think i like part 2 of it even more. i plan on trying to find myself a copy of this CD.

UPDATE: found it on CD for good price. got me some other CDs from the seller too, found some pretty alright bands that are nice to listen to. they were very cheap so definitely worth it, got one from a band called primal scream and then another from thee maldoror kollective, and another from babylon zoo. gave em a peek through beforehand.

MAY 1ST, 2024

started off with going through my many, many bookmarks. a random person i found through youtube comments section whose parents were furries who inspired them to make music, although they just make phonk. JGTRX is their name. i'm not really into phonk, don't really like the soundfont that's used, although there's a few songs i've heard that i like. i couldn't get into JGTRX but i did send them to my friend who's pretty into phonk.

now i'm listening to an EP one of my best friends sent called tank on E by kaicrewsade. it's really nice, not one i would add to a personal playlist but wouldn't mind listening to often. it's chill, good beats. i love the talking samples that they put in there.

listening to an album (EP?) my friend really likes he has it has his profile picture on discord and i've been meaning to give it a try. it's pretty nice, here is the link to it.

listened to a bit of the album monolith of phobos by the claypool lennon delirium, didn't really like it. not bad just not my thing. has some nice guitars at times. reminds me a bit of king gizzard and the lizard wizard.

listening to the song i'm with stupid by orbital heartbeat, it's kind of boring to listen to but it has a lot of good sounding bits to it, just needs a little something more particularly in the beginning. listened to harlequin and lioness, didn't like them. giving a gander at midnight shifter and this is actually pretty good. i'm gonna have to give it another listen in the future to make sure i actually like it though.

giving diselboy's system upgrade a listen to, this is really really good. goddamn. there are so many good drum n bass albums out there.

APRIL 23RD, 2024

a friend sent me some songs to go through, they were pretty good. the first was paradise by dreamwake, and while not really my thing i appreciated what it was doing. mixing vaporwave with metal is definitely interesting, i respect it. then he sent me cure by ERRA, which was pretty good. gonna have to listen to the full album one of these days. i checked out a couple songs from it. then was deadhead by devin townsend project, i liked the instrumentals on that one, not bad. then he sent me a couple songs by spiritbox who i couldn't really get into (cellar door, eternal blue). cellar door did have some interesting parts though i will say. then my favorite of what he sent me, the song epilogue by fleshgod apocalypse. really good atmosphere, i love the acoustic at the beginning i'm a sucker for when people mix acoustic stuff into metal. then he sent lordfarquadzilla by bilmuri, which at first i didn't like because the beginning sounds like that weeknd type genre (not sure the name) that takes over the radio these days (not that i listen to it anymore, but the stuff i hear at work and out and about forces me to... radio rarely ever played the best of the best, but at least there were some actual good stuff even in the early 2010s and beforehand). but further in, it gets pretty nice to listen to. the music video is fun too. the last song he sent was lorna shore's to the hellfire, which is fun i dig what they're doing. not super into them, but i want to give more of their stuff a shot at some point.

youtube recommendations once again show me something interesting for once. this. and they've got another album that at first isn't as good, but a few songs in it starts gettin good. still not as good as the new adventures of klerk bletus though. here. this stuff is really raw. i don't know who made this or why or what it means, but i love it. kind of reminds me of daniel johnston but less depressing.

i FINALLY got around to listening to a friend's rec the other day. this really good drum n bass album. there was more he recc'd that i haven't gotten around to listening to yet.

APRIL 2ND, 2024

not going to detail this whole journey, but finally got around to listening to wedlock's ganjaman album after hearing it sampled in renard's ganjaman song and god damn this is good. great gabber.

MARCH 18TH, 2024

starting the journey with the new york doll's first album. their stage presence really added to the song personality crisis, it's not as good without that. they're still pretty good, i'm enjoying the album so far, but not something i'm going to find myself listening to very often. i'll keep it in my back pocket, though.

now i'm going to grandaddy's the sophtware slump album, which was recommended if i liked modest mouse's this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about (which i do, it's one of my favorite albums). i've listened to one of grandaddy's albums before, used to be kind of into it although i wouldn't like it now, the album with the puppet on the front that looks like the guy's puppet from that shitty nickelodeon show victorious. so far this album is better than the other one i've listened to, but not particularly my style. kind of reminds me of youth lagoon, a band that i used to be really into but can't listen to anymore. they don't click with me like they used to plus the vibes have soured. i can't get into grandaddy, but this isn't a bad album. i can see why someone would recommend it if i liked that modest mouse album.

started up sudden death's suddenly album, this is really good. was recorded in 1972, released in 1995. trying to find out the story behind this album but so far haven't found anything. UPDATE: found something. it's here. this is quite the read, i've just skimmed through it, but exactly what i was looking for. on another note, man, i really hate his vocals in the zoo, that "whistling" he does with the words it drives me insane. still a great album, and a shame the band didn't kick off.

gave a glance to a couple ratt albums (invasion of your privacy and their 1983 EP) and i couldn't get into it. i really don't like this style of rock most of the time.

listening to the monsters' album freak on, not too bad. not really catching me so far. i'm really digging animal road. it's weird and deranged. yeah, not an album i will visit very often but it's very goofy and weird i dig it. so far this listening session nothing too great that stands out to me.

listening to desaster's hellfire's dominion album. pretty nice metal, although it doesn't stand out to me much. definitely going in my arsenal. reminds me of another band that i can't quite place. there's one mini riff in the first part of expect no release that reminds me of something from sabbat's the dwelling. man, that really makes me want to listen to that album again, it's so good.

THE FIRST ENTRY: MARCH 9TH, 2024

i just started listening to the stooges' album fun house, GOD this album is good. i'm going to be posting my writing and music discovery journals here. i started with the misfits alternate takes (some kinda hate, astro zombies, and i turned into a martian) which were pretty good, then i listened to a youth brigade song (never listened to much of them, but the song was i hate my life and it was pretty good i'll be giving them a proper listen one of these days), then went to new york dolls and man those guys have such a stage presence i bet they were awesome live, they sure looked it. then i saw someone mention the stooges in the same vein as the new york dolls and god damn. best thing i've heard all night so far, and best thing i've heard in quite a while. instant classic. earlier i listened to antimaster's self-titled album and i can tell i'll like that album later on, it wasn't hitting at the moment but i still did like it i just wasn't getting really into it, but i doubt it'll make it into my large favorite albums list. usually i immediately know, although occasionally that rule doesn't apply as devil master never hit like it does now for me back when i first listened to them around 2019.

right now i'm listening to silent hill songs, particularly that youtube video silent hill but it's a 2000's album, whilst trying to remember how to html and css 6_^
